Previous contacts: Dr. Norman Black (Historical
Society-Longview, Texas) Roby Whitaker who has family buried there
has done much research on the ownership of the road leading to the
cemetery and found that the people living on the road have no
rights to it at all. I do not know where he lives but his phone
number is 903/938-6822
Other information
The problem is the dirt road
leading to the cemetery. At the end of the road adjoining the
cemetery is what is known as a "crack house". People
live there and there is much traffic in and out. The other people
living on the road resent the amount of traffic and one of them
used a bull dozer to create very large holes in the road as well
as pushing a large tree trunk and put an old car on its side right
next to the cemetery. The whole thing is a terrible eye sore to
the cemetery which was there way before these hoodlums moved in.
People are afraid to visit the cemetery because of the road
condition and are afraid of the occupants of the "crack
house". The law closed down the house a few years ago, but it
is once again active and they won't do anything about it. As I
understand it, my deceased husbands great grandparents donated the
land to be used as a cemetery back in the early 1800s. All I am
asking for is a marker on hwy 2767 stating "Glover-Mt.Sylvan
Cemetery"
