Other_Information:

This cemetery was found recently by archaeologists who are terminating a prehistoric Native American burial ground on the property that once belonged to the Col. John Donelson family. The site is located behind the Southfork Subdivision off of Old Hickory Blvd. in Old Hickory Tennessee.  The Hermitage Golf Course bounds the site on the west side. Archaeologists have detetrmined that the slave burials now currently totalling about twenty five that date from the 1840's through the 1850's based on artifactual evidence. Archaeologists expect to find many more. The skeletal remains indicate that they are in fact African American in origin. The site is being cleared for Condominium development under a court order issued by the Davidson County Chancery Court. The site originally contained over 330 sets of prehistoric Native American remains which have been removed and reburied on the same property. The slave burials were placed in among the Native American remains in uniformly dug grave shafts. The African America
