Update (15 Feb, 2001):The Friends of Mount Moriah took a tour of the cemetery on January 26, 2002 and found it in deplorable condition.

Missing and toppled stones, graffiti on stones.  Mausoleums and vaults that have had to be sealed up with concrete and/or bricks because of vandalism. Junk and garbage dumped in parts of the cemetery. Some sections of the cemetery have weeds so high that there is no hope of ever locating a grave.  Trash everywhere, even in the manicured, well-kept sections (the front ones which can be seen from the streets).  I even saw the burned out hulk of a car that had been torched, right in the middle of one of the roads.

Section 208 where my paternal grandfather was laid to rest back in 1931 is in the back of this cemetery and is in pitiful condition (see photo, e-mailed 2/14).   The staff at this cemetery are terribly uncooperative and rude. Their response to every question and complaint is to claim that alot "doesn't have a care plan".  Then they demand money.

Nothing has been done since my initial September 2000 report about this cemetery, which opened in 1855 and was once THE place to be interred.

Update (14 Aug, 2002):

Condition is so bad that access to my family's grave is difficult. Trash & old furniture has been dumped there. Roads are unpaved & are difficult to drive on. Complaints have gone unheard. Wall & fence surrounding cemetery are in shambles. Vandalism is present throughout the cemetery. Empty vaults are piled on top graves. Workers sit on stones eating, drinking & smoking.
