| The Oregon Pioneer Cemetery
Commission has three pieces of legislation coming up this session:
HB2206 increases potential
penalties for vandalism and/or theft from historic cemeteries.
SB 243 modifies
notification requirements for discontinuance of certain cemeteries and
requires prior approval of the Pioneer Cemetery Commission for
discontinuance or removal of pioneer cemeteries.
SB244 changes the name of
the OPCC to Commission on Historic Cemeteries.

Cemeteries Association
The OHCA was the first statewide cemetery association west of the
Mississippi. Established in 1992, it promotes cemetery education,
preservation, and restoration.

Pioneer Cemetery Commission/Oregon Commission on Historic Cemeteries
The Oregon
Pioneer Cemetery Commission was established by the legislature in 1999
and placed within the State Historic Preservation Office under the
State Parks and Recreation Department. The responsibilities of the OPCC
include but are not limited to: develop and maintain a listing of all
pioneer era cemeteries and gravesites in the state, obtain grants
funding for the preservation and restoration of historic cemeteries,
seek legislative appropriations for historic cemeteries, promote public
education related to historic cemeteries, assist in obtaining technical
assistance on the care of historic cemeteries, and assist cemeteries
listed with the OPCC to rehabilitate and maintain those cemeteries.
