Date: May 26, 2000 LocationDescriptionLocated next to IBM Company in Sterling, NY. At entrance of IBM there is a small gravel road leading up to a hill, this is the cemetery. There are no signs for it, an Orange County researcher told me that the name of it, or is it called, is Sterling Mines. I visited this cemetery two weeks ago and I do not know who anyone knows it exists. I was told by this Orange County researcher (genealogy researching on the Orange Co. message board) that IBM bought the property, but preserved the cemetery. I do not know who owns the cemetery, or what or who cares for it. It is not taken care of - there is a small dirt road leading to the cemetery, less than 1/2 mile. It is covered with fallen trees, you cannot drive to the cemetery, but must get out and walk. The cemetery is located in a small clearing at the end of this roadway. The ground is covered with trees, property is very uneven, dangerous to walk. There are about 20 - 25 headstones which stand and are partially readable. The rest have obviously sunk, Other ProblemsPrevious ContactsI have written to the Orange County Historian looking for a burial listing and information concerning this cemetery, but I have not received a reply as of yet. Current StatusSubmitted by / Contact for additional Information: name: Marci Hirkaler
