Recently, the cemetery that I care for, the Bridgeport Pioneer Cemetery, in Bridgeport, NY, was vandalized. They spray painted vulgar and satanic words on about half a dozen stones - some limestone, others marble, plus they overturned and smashed about 20 others. Of about 50 stones left in the cemetery, 20 of them were damaged in some way. The police have no leads at this time. The burial dates for this cemetery are from 1799 to 1932. There are 3 veterans buried in here, one from the Rev. war and 2 from the Civil war, one of which is damaged. The Town of Sullivan is the owner of record for it, and they may be able to get insurance monies for repairs, but it is doubtful. We will try to restore it as much as we can, using volunteers.
