Other InformationThis cemetery lies surrounded by land owned by a developer. Past ownership contacted the family in a attempt to acquire the cemetery land but they were refused. I came into contact with a member of the Deans family and together we tried to clean it but we made a very small dent. I am in the process of contacting the local farm caretaker about putting together a group to clean the .53 acre site. Revolutionary soldiers as well as family slaves are buried in this cemetery. The descendent I have come to know is in Montana and cannot assist in saving this cemetery. I want to preserve and acknowledge it's existence for the community and the family members. I took them there in June 2001 because they had not been able to locate it. One soldiers grave has been covered by brush and perfectly preserved and others are in good condition. I am planning to contact a local VFW historian in town with hopes of gaining his help and the local boy scouts to clear the brush away. I was done in 1989 and had not been touched since. I have articles and pictures of the cemetery as well as family photos and wills. I have struck a strong bond with the descendents and hope to have the cemetery clean and acknowledge by the time they visit in December 2001. |
