Other Information
This is a abandoned Pioneer
Cemetery on the Walsh County Border. In January 1983, the Grand
Forks did a story on this particular cemetery. At that time there
was Peter Deiter headstone along with three headstones that
belonged to the Nelson children who died between 1884 and 1891.
There were also several wooden crosses that were rotten and
falling apart. In 1990, when two women inventoried the cemetery
for Walsh County, all they found was one wooden flagpole, one
wooden cross, and Peter Dieter's headstone. They could not find
the Nelson children's headstones. They had to wade through the
prarie grass and lilac bushes just to find out if there is any
more burials. When I visited the cemetery on February 18 2002, I
found only Peter Dieter's headstone. There is so much dead prairie
grass, mud, dirt and ice, it was impossible to go in to locate any
more headstones. I will go back in the Spring to look some more.
headstones.
