Other_Information:
"Wake County commissioners gave their approval to move 120 sets
of remains from a South Raleigh cemetery to Clayton [in Johnston
County.] The disinterment of the bodies from the Fox Road
Cemetery, an abandoned plot near the intersection of Fox Road
and Sumner Boulevard just outside the city limits, will make way
for development of the 37-acre parcel.
"John Clauser, a private consultant contracted to determine
whether the cemetery was historically important, told
commissioners there was little he could uncover about the
graves, which date from 1900.
"The remains are to be moved to Sylvia Gardens in Clayton, where
they will be reinterred. Commissioners voted 5-2 to approve the
project, with Joe Bryan and Kenn Gardner dissenting."
This was from the Raleigh, North Carolina "News & Observer,"
Tuesday, October 21, 2003, page 3B.
I have not visited the site. A search for the address on
Mapquest.com indicates it to be in north Raleigh, rather than
south Raleigh as the article says. On any of the above questions
that did not give me an option of 'unsure' I left the default
setting as the answer to the question.
