My husband and I visited Currie Barnett Cemetery in Person County, NC
this past week.  I had tried to contact Corrie Barnett that was
listed on the webpage where this was listed as endangered.  His email
was returned.

For an update on the cemetery....the area was apparently cleared of
trees and growth several years ago, because now the underbrush is
growing back...and the periwinkle that was keeping the cemetery
maintained is gone from area of the stones.  The periwinkle is still
present in the forest adjoining the area.  Somebody thought they were
doing good, but, unfortunately, it was the wrong thing to do.  Access
to the cemetery is a long walk up the ridge from a neighboring
home...but, the homeowner is willing to provide permission for those
that wish to visit.

Since this is a historical cemetery to our area, here is what we
propose to do:
1.  Contact the homeowner, who is the developer, and see what she is
willing to do.
2.  Provide access from either Teal Rd or Shore Dr. by having a
driveway pipe put in with permission from the landowner.
3.  Restore the periwinkle to the area.  Keep the underbrush at bay
until the periwinkle can be reestablished.
4.  List the cemetery with our Historical Society so that the
importance of it will not go unnoticed.

This cemetery is not endangered from destruction...just neglect.
Keep having fun, Becky Dalton

Hey there
I noticed recently on the Savings Graves site that there was a cemetery in our county that was listed as endangered.  The Barnett Cemetery in Ceffo, Person County.  My husband and I are volunteers who survey and record all cemeteries in Person County.  We visited this cemetery several times in the last month.  It is not endangered....it's not very accessible...but, we are working on that.  It's true that someone cut the trees that kept the periwinkle growing and the sunlight has allowed the poison ivy to grow...but, we are working on preserving that historical landmark with the Historical Society.  Please change this information, I am attaching pictures.

Thanks, Becky Dalton
