Other_Information:

Bailey's Grove Baptist Church wants to move the cemetery to expand their parking. This church was named for W.D. Bailey, who is buried in the cemetery. He also donated the land for the church and the cemetery.

I am working with decendents of the Baileys to stop this move. We think the move boils down to this: the church owns an entire city block, on which is this cemetery. They want to move it to make the block more valuable. They claim they need the land to expand, but it is obviously not true.

We are working with an attorney on this. The deed for the cemetery land states that it was donated "to be used by the church trustees and their successors in office as a burying ground."

Also, the church has a road through the cemetery with sunken places, and has taken much of the cemetery land for parking. Older folk remember a larger cemetery, with stones that are no longer in place.
