When I received a copy of my g-grandfather's death certificate,
stating that he was buried in "Arbuckle Cemetery" I asked
through a mailing list if some one would be willing to go to the
cemetery and take pictures of headstones of my ancestors. I received
an answer from a wonderful lady who woks for the Port Authority in New
Madrid stating she would try to find the cemetery. To make a long
story short, after being unable to the cemetery, she spoke with an
older member of the Arbuckle family and learned that a number
("several") years ago, a farmer rented the land, put the
headstones in a fence row and plowed up the cemetery. There was some
kind of legal action taken, but nothing was resolved, according to her
source. I still have her e-mail to me concerning this on file. She
could not find the fence row of headstones. I believe there was more
of my family buried in this cemetery. Living in CA, I am helpless to
do anything. Would it be possible for someone to at least find the
headstones and record them? I am sick!! about this.
