The Hunter Cemetery Restoration Trust has been established by the DeMaranville Family who has 16 (that we know of) ancestors buried at Hunter Cemetery. Jim & Mikki Judge, along with one other family member have worked the entire summer of the year 2000 clearing this .6 acre cemetery, and locating gravestones. There is still some clearing of the cemetery to be done in the spring of 2001 before we start a full search of the area for buried gravestones, and begin the process of restoring the stones and resetting them. This cemetery was desecrated in the 1960s by the former landowner, who razed the stones and started to bury them to gain additional farmland. When the neighbors heard about this, they stopped him; but the cemetery has been left since then in this condition, and allowed to be overgrown by pucker brush, weeds, and dead and fallen trees. Hunter Cemetery was located in May, 2000 by Jim & Mikki Judge while looking for the gravesite of Mikki's great great grandparents, Nehemiah & Phebe. Jim & Mikki Judge can be reached through their email address: jjudge2127@aol.com and donations can be made to the Hunter Cemetery Restoration Trust, P. O. Box 38, Buffalo, IA 52728 (319)381-3238.
