Needs
The cemetery has been completely abandoned it
doesn't look like anybody has even visited the cemetery in 50 or 60
years. Headstones are sunk, the walls to the cemetery are completely
covered with growth. Trees are grown into places of graves sites and
headstones. The cemetery is in the middle of the woods. I found it
walking off the border of property I was looking to purchase.
Other Information
The only readable marking was for a Joel Bitgood
who died in 1742. No other indication of names or markings are visible.

We recently
purchased the property on Shetucket Turnpike in
Voluntown, CT which contains the Bitgood
Cemetery. We were therefore very interested in
the information on your site as we hoped to
research it more fully when we have time. We
will be clearing brush from the cemetery and
plan to landscape and restore the area beginning
this fall. If you obtain more information about
the site or have suggestions as to its
improvement, olease do no hesitate to contact
