Treat Yourself to Guilt-free Luxury

We all like to treat ourselves to a little luxury now and then. If that luxurious item happens to be good for us as well, then so much the better. Unfortunately, those tow concepts are usually at opposite ends of the spectrum. If it’s a luxury then it probably isn’t good for us. The two exceptions are dark chocolate and memory foam mattresses.

Dark chocolate, so long as it isn’t mixed with milk, is rich in antioxidants that have a host of health benefits, not the least of which is the potential to help lower blood pressure. Of course, even so, just 100 grams of dark chocolate contains more than 500 calories which is well more than one quarter of most people’s daily caloric intake. While the luxury of dark chocolate may have some benefits, these can be offset to some by the high number of calories, if you’re not careful with your portions.

Memory foam mattresses on the other hand can be used in daily eight hour doses with no drawbacks whatsoever. The rich luxury of a contouring, yet supportive memory foam mattress also provides health benefits. First and foremost is its ability to help you get a good night’s sleep on a regular basis. There is a plethora of reliable studies which show the benefits of a full night’s sleep on many aspects of our physical and emotional health. Combine those benefits with reduced pressure on sensitive areas of the body such as shoulders, hips and knees, and add in a firm support for the spine and the positive side of memory foam mattresses becomes abundantly clear.

To prove the luxury of a memory foam mattress, all we have to do is to lie down on one. As our body heat interacts with the memory foam, it forms a softer layer that molds itself around the shape of our bodies providing a level of physical comfort that many compare to sleeping on a cloud. Despite the soft form fitting nature of memory foam, it also provides firm support so that, unlike a mattress that’s just too soft, we don’t wake up in the morning with a stiff neck or a sore back.

Memory foam, these days, is even good for our wallets. Although it was once one of the most expense sleeping surfaces available, it has experienced a tremendous price drop in recent years thanks to the increase in the number and size of memory foam manufacturers. You no longer have to pay an arm and a leg to keep your arms and legs comfortable while you sleep.

With memory foam mattresses, we finally have true luxury that we doesn’t leave us feeling guilty (as long as we have the strength of character to get up for work the next morning).
