Update

August 19, 2004;

I visited the cemetery a few months ago and found that my grandfather and cousin's grave have been cleaned and a small rock wall placed around them and gravel placed on top of the graves. I was pleased to see that some clean up had been done. However, this cemetery is still very overgrown, no trash barrels. It is such a pity that the community does not maintain this cemetery.

April 4, 2001;

Cemetery is not maintained at all. Dead trees and branches are every where. Several unmarked graves. Fence around cemetery is very old and falling apart. It looks as if time and the city of Van Buren has forgotten it. Private drive way next to the cemetery leads to a mobile home. Road dead ends just passed the drive way. No trash barrels for flowers to be put in. Instead they are piled up by the broken down fence at the front. No signs indicating where the cemetery is or how to get to it. Only found out by word of mouth. Old family plots are surrounded by 1 to 2 feet high rock walls. Bush overgrow is terrible and the thorn bushes. This cemetery is not maintained at all. I visited it back in 1974 and it was beautiful then. Now just a month ago, it almost brought tears to my eyes. I found my grandfather's grave the first time but this time due to the neglect of the cemetery and all the results of the weather (trees, branches, bushes, etc), was unable to find it. It would be wonderful to see this old cemetery restored and maintained.
