Other Information

These graves belong to Natives that lived here in Knik over 100 years ago. None of the local tribes claim to be family to these folks. A new owner has just purchased the property, so the status is unclear.

Update

This cemetery is located within the right of way of the Knik Goosebay Road. The land was recently purchased by a private developer. We are unsure of his plans. The spirit houses are falling down and 2 of them are repairable many would need to be rebuilt, and placed on the many depressions.

Update 2 ( 5/9/02 )

This Athabascan Cemetery was sold to a developer, he has agreed to donate the cemetery to the local Native corporation. This cemetery will now be maintained by the Natives and protected. Thank you for all your help. We no longer consider this cemetery to be in danger of development.
